Description

ProMedica, Alliance to End Hunger and Bread for the World are hosting a statewide event to discuss effective strategies on addressing hunger as a health issue and building a hunger-free model for Ohio.

We cordially invite you to join the conversation on Friday, December 11 (8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m EDT) at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center in Lewis Center, Ohio. The summit is free of charge.

This session will feature perspectives from an array of experts including a keynote address by John B. McCarthy, Director, Ohio Department of Medicaid. Representatives from Ohio healthcare organizations, faith-based groups, the education community, and government institutes will gather to share best practices, offer community connections and resources, and advocate for Ohio’s food insecure individuals and families.

Currently, Ohio – with a 16% food insecurity rate – ranks in the top eight states in the nation with the highest rates of food insecurity. There are clear associations between food insecurity and poorer health status among children, adults and seniors. The long-term, detrimental effects of poor nutrition on health include negative consequences on physical and mental development, as well as the productivity and economic success of our state and, ultimately, our nation. Through our combined efforts we will continue to frame this issue in a unique perspective so that, collectively, we can develop and deploy sustainable solutions to end hunger in Ohio.

Learn more about ProMedica’s initiative to address hunger as a health issue and our Come to the Table initiative on ProMedica’s website. And look for an expanded email invitation to this Hunger-Free Ohio event in the coming weeks. We also encourage you to share the date of this event with any partners and colleagues who may be interested in attending.
